Choosing a minibar
Noise is especially important in a hotel-room minibar. Absorption systems are silent but generally use more energy and cool less strongly than compressor systems. Compressor models provide stronger cooling with some noise; thermoelectric models offer another option.
Compare glass or solid doors, capacity of 30–60 l, built-in or freestanding installation and automatic defrost.
What to check
- Noise in dB matters in a bedroom.
- Capacity and internal layout for bottles, cans and shelves.
- Door type: glass displays the contents; a solid door limits heat gain.
- Built-in dimensions and ventilation clearances within furniture.
Where to use it
Hotels may need absorption or quiet compressor minibars. Offices and kitchenettes may use a small compressor fridge. Glass-door models can display drinks at reception.
