Choosing a wine cabinet

Wine cabinets control temperature and protect bottles from vibration. A single zone can suit one serving temperature; two zones suit red and white wines together. Longer-term storage generally needs a steady +12 °C and humidity around 60–70 %.

Compare compressor or thermoelectric cooling, zone number, UV-protected glass, rack type and built-in suitability.

What to check

• Capacity is quoted in 0.75 l standard bottles; wider bottles reduce the actual number.
• One zone for a single serving temperature; two or more for different wines.
• Vibration and noise: consider compressor vibration damping in a dining room.
• UV-protected glass and interior lighting for cabinets exposed to daylight.
• Built-in models need the specified ventilation, commonly at the front; freestanding models need their stated clearances.

Where to use it

Multi-zone glass-door cabinets suit restaurant displays; larger single-zone models suit shops. Quiet compact units may suit hotels and offices.
